ABOUT ME

I’ve always been interested in how things fit together.

I’m Colum, a content designer and brand manager based in Belfast.

My work sits somewhere between words, design, technology and problem-solving. Over the past decade or so I’ve worked across websites, e-commerce, editorial design, campaigns, photography, video and digital production.

The common thread is usually the same: taking something complicated, messy or incomplete and working out how to make it clearer and more useful.

How I ended up here

I started out working across music, events, photography, video and websites before moving into editorial design and then into a much broader digital and brand role.

Today I manage content and customer journeys across two e-commerce websites for Rebecca James Bridal, alongside email, social, print and in-store communication.

That means I can spend one part of the day thinking about page hierarchy or customer behaviour and another solving a technical problem, designing a campaign or working with colleagues on how something should be communicated.

I like that variety. I’m happiest when writing, design and evidence all have to work together.

Away from the screen

Outside work, I’m usually listening to music, watching films, reading about history, cooking, cycling, gardening or disappearing down a design-related rabbit hole.

I’m curious by nature, which is probably why I’ve ended up doing work that involves asking a lot of questions.
